Gantry Cranes Uses
In today's industrial world, there are many different types of equipment hoists that are used. Gantry cranes are one such type of equipment used by many different businesses and there is more than just one specific type. They range from small cranes that are movable by hand to very large cranes that must be moved mechanically. Many of the large versions are used to help build and repair ships; whereas the smaller versions are used in workshops to move heavy items or even in garages to move engines in and out of vehicles.
Whether you call them overhead traveling cranes, overhead cranes or even suspended cranes, you are most likely talking about the same type of hoists cranes. This type of crane is very similar to gantry cranes and can do basically the same type of job. The overhead crane is able to support a large amount of weight specifically because of the way that it is built. These hoists cranes sit on a rail or a set of rails, allowing the items that they are carrying to be moved horizontally, as well as vertically.
Two very famous gantry cranes can be found docked in Northern Ireland. Both of these hoists cranes can span over 140 meters and are able to lift equipment and other items with a weight of up to 840 metric tons to heights of up to 70 meters. These two cranes were dubbed the names Goliath and Samson. These names were chosen because the machines are such mammoths in the crane world. The combined abilities of these two cranes make them one of the strongest equipment hoists teams in the world.
Cranes such as gantry cranes have lightened the work load in many industries and cut the amount of manpower needed to do certain jobs by more than half in years past. Without these types of cranes the engines that are used in ships today could possibly never be used or would have to be built directly in the ships engine hold. Being able to move the entire engine or any other piece of extremely heavy equipment allows for a much faster pace to be taken and for work to be completed more efficiently.
